Mindfulness @ Google


You can not only search the web through Google but now you can also “Search Inside Yourself”. Oh, No? It’s not a new algorithm that Google has developed. It is a new mindfulness program that Google is offering to their employees. 

This program is also in the form of a book titled, “Search Inside Yourself: The unexpected path to achieving Success, Happiness and World Peace”. The book is written by Chade-Meng Tan, an engineer @ Google. The book is foreworded by Daniel Goleman who has brought into the world an insight into emotional intelligence. Can an engineer have an emotional intelligence? Of course, why not? An engineer is also a human being and not a cyborg. To know it better you have to read the book. It’s a good book indeed. And you can’t attend the program unless you are a Google employee. So the best option is to read the book. The book is available at Amazon, in all versions - Kindle, Hardcover, Paperback, and Audible. You have a great choice. 

This program is offered to Google employees free of cost. More than 1,000 Google employees have already taken the class and many are in the waiting list. 

This program aims at the following three possibilities: 
  • Training one’s attention. 
  • Developing Self-knowledge and Self-mastery. 
  • Creating useful mental habits. 
That’s great !! This is what is actually needed at the workplace. This is the change that the organizations must aim at and catalyse that change.

I came across a beautiful Sufi saying that says, “I searched for God and found only myself. I searched for myself and found only God. All search must eventually end in knowing yourself. 

What is Mindfulness? It is definitely not being “Full of Mind”. At a very very higher plane it is just being in the moment and witnessing the reality as it is. Please explore the following link to know more about mindfulness: 


In order achieve highest productivity and performance the workplace has to be a melt-in of individual egos. I was working with a Korean MNC. And we used to have regular melt-in meetings there. The boss at the workplace my have the highest of the ego possible. And this ego can be a great barrier to change and transformation. And this ego can be transformed into Enlightenment. This change and transformation is really possible. Who is a boss? The one who has got subordinates. And who is a leader? The one who has got followers. The questions that arise are: 
  • Can a boss become a leader? 
  • Can a workplace become a worship place? 
  • Can the job become a joy? 
  • Can love and leadership go together? 
  • Can love become the “Light of Leadership”? 
When we bring in “awareness” to all the questions above, a change and transformation is possible. And all this change and transformation is part of “Mindfulness”. A true CEO is one who becomes a catalyst and a change agent of this change.

A Mathematical Expression of Enlightened Leadership

I was just wondering if Enlightened Leadership can really be expressed by way of a mathematical expression. An object is a subset of the subject. There is no reason why it can not be expressed. There has to be a way to express it mathematically. The whole objective reality can be expressed mathematically. I really do not find a problem anywhere.

There are two dimensions to the existence. One is a horizontal dimension that exists in time. The whole of history, Itihasas, and the Puranas are part of it. And all these are full of symbolic and non-symbolic expressions. The other is a vertical dimension which does not exist in time. No matter we do what, this can never be expressed in terms of mathematics. This can be expressed only by way of metaphors. The Vedas and Upanishads are expressions of this timeless dimension.
